Has anyone changed their painted 07 wheels to chrome?
I want to keep my PC stock but I like the chrome look.

Hi Mike. I have seen a few. Attached is a photo of another PCR member who put on the chrome "z06" style wheels (this was taken before the chrome "split spoke" wheels were available to purchase. Personally I'm a fan of keeping Pace cars stock, since they are a special edition, but since I also like to customize my Vettes (and have another car for that purpose) I can appreciate when someone wants to add a little more color to the engine bay with snap on parts or spruce up the wheels. As long as you can return it to stock condition to preserve the value in a resale, go for it!

Agree with Bob on both points. The chrome certainly adds more bling.

On the opposite side of this spectrum, from the "oh say it aint so" file, a car buddy of mine who works at a Dallas area Chevy dealer called me last week about a 2008 pace car that was sold as a used car. Apparenly the new owner "didn't like the dumb graphics", just wanted a black coupe and could live with the IMS logo stitched seats and exterior badging. So, the dealer removed the decals prior to delivery. Bob, I remember us talking about just this scenario when we visited at Indy.

As is turns out the car is one of the 19 Track Car coupes!

Thats ashame that someone would ruin a pace car. I am not against customizing pace cars if it is done respectfully to its heritage, but its just not right to strip it of its pride. I guess we could say they are only decals that could be replaced. Still, thats horrible.

To each their own as they say. Funny, when I bought my first '78 I didn't want one with the door or winged wheel decals applied--bought my third '78 with the decals on it as they had grown on me by then. When I started to prepare for NCRS flight judging I found it interesting that points are deducted (a very small number) if the decals are applied. Made sense after I read a bit more--given the standard for flight judging is "as it left the factory"--paraphrased. Since door decal installation was left to the original owner's discretion it adds up (or deducts as the case may be--okay, really bad pun).

Guess the same holds true today for '86s and will apply to the '95, '98 when they hit the 20 year mark too (if it wasn't for that small "Officail Pace Car" decal on each door!)

For sure there was no "decal delete" option in any pace car year. If you look at the copy of the window sticker with the 07, it even lists the decal package, and the MSRP price is correct for a "normal" manual transmission car. So, someone either buffaloed the dealer, or I guess it is possible that someone with enough pull could order one without the graphics, but there is no supporting evidence of that, and no price adjustment for it.

I guess i shouldn't say too much, my 78 doesn't have decals on it. Still couldn't live with a naked 98 though, it wouldn't be the same. What is the point of taking the decals off the 07, can't you order basically the same car in that color for less without the pace car package?

Yes, with some exceptions. In 07, only the Pace car had the new wheels. You could buy the rear spoiler and paint it, etc. Only thing really hard to get are the seat skins and Indy emblems if you want them - but even they can be had if you know the right process. So you could get a "non-pacer" for several grand less sticker.

My money's on a scenario where the original owner had the decal package removed. Now the dealer selling the car has decided to market it as a "rare decal delete car", thinking that "1of X" might make it more attractive to potential buyers. I like the '07 decal package (hey, if I can stomach the '98 and its blaze of purple/yellow haze guess I can handle anything ), but seriously, the '07 treatment just seems to flow nicely all the way to underhood.

The '08 has grown on me this year--though Emmo will never be one of my favorite Indy winners--still think his arrogant driving put Al Jr. into the wall in '89 with a lap and a half to go, then in '93 he refused to drink the traditional milk in victory lane, instead opting for his own branded Orange Juice "...no, no, I need my Emmo enegry drink"--remeber that?. That put him in the record books, becoming one of only two '500 winners not to take a swig of the ADA's finest.

Unlike much of little Al's behavior in the years that followed, he was a class act in the moments that followed that '89 race.

I would have preferred to see Rick Mears honored this year (with his autograph on and in the car)--would have celebrated a four time winner and commemorated the 20th anniversary of his third win ('88). Oh well, I'm sure I'll scratch the itch and buy an '08 track car somewhere down the road.

I've got some friends at the General, Bruce--one of them was kind enough to shoot me the detail in an email. Actually, GM dealer personnel have access to VISS as well.

I'm needing the paint code for the 07 sterling silver painted wheels. Due to winter driving by the previous owner, there's some pitting on the wheels, so repainting is required. Can anyone help on this? Thanks!
