Congrats on your purchase. One thing on the graphics - right now, replacements are only available thru your Chevy dealer (or maybe Ebay on occasion). And they may not be stocking replacements, so it could take a while to get replacements. Also, at some point, they will stop offering them - probably years out in the future, but with the state of GM, who knows. May be worth getting a set now and storing them in an environmentally correct location "just in case". It's also possible that in the future some graphics company could decide to produce reproductions, but most likely not until the OEM are out of production, and if they see a market for them. I have an 07, and in the same boat - should I buy a spare set for mine or take the risk?
Good luck !

Well, it's hard to believe the Labor Day weekend is almost upon us, we all know what is coming around the corner.... For those of you who will be making the trek to the Corvette Museum in one of the Caravans or by yourself, have a safe trip and fun filled event. The Cleveland Ohio contingent leaves tomorrow (Wed.) for our first destination, Columbus, tomorrow night, and onward to the NCM on Thursday. Hope to run into you down there, if you see us, stop by and say Hi!

I'm not sure what you mean by "drove prior to"? There are several uses for event vehicles at the race, one for track / official persons use, like mayor, etc., and the other for the 500 Festival committee (Indy 500) or driver introductions. The drivers themselves would not have driven the cars. For 2003, Monte Carlo was the Brickyard Pace car, and at that time if I remember, they used Silverados for driver intros, but I could be mistaken. We have no evidence of Corvette being used during the 2003 Brickyard.
I suppose it is possible there was some special parade lap, but we have no info on that either.
Do you have some info that indicates they were used?

So it is.... what a surprise, I wasn't even watching for the announcement because I expected a Camaro. I had heard that 5 Corvette convertibles were retained from the 500 to be reused this weekend. Have you seen any - better yet, any photos of them or info on which track #'s? I'm assuming they stripped ALL graphics off and started over, since I'm not sure they would tie into this graphics scheme. Also, could not tell by the photo, is that the new Torch Red, or some shade of Orange?

The Registry has in our posession the internal memo describing all 4 Pace cars. What is documented to be #4 was identified as vin 400006. Some items on the document show this was an engineering prototype vehicle used throughout the program for RPOZ-78 development and sales promotional purposes. Prior to going to Indy, some "production" work was done, such as installing the correct Pace car seats. It was also earmarked to be assigned to USAC after the 500 so they could use it at other races during 1978 - not sure this ever occurred since I've never seen a 78 pacing any other race after the 500. At the time of the transfer to the Speedway and USAC, it was "property of GM Engineering".
The 4 actual cars were made up of this Engineering prototype, a pilot line car, and 2 production line cars.

Good info. I was going to correct you on the 82, it was 92. And that car is sitting at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. Wonder where the others are?

That is the number of Corvettes built! This milestone was just reached on 5/28/09, when # 1,500,000 rolled off the line in Bowling Green. It's a milestone everyone should remember in this crazy economy and Auto industry.... At least the first 1,500,000 made were called Chevrolet! Photos on our website!
Does anyone remember when 500,000 and 1,000,000 rolled off and from what assembly plant?

To clarify, are you looking for #65, or do you know the number needed? You could also post on the Public side of the Forum to see if anyone has one...

No resources I am aware of for having duplicate stamped plates made. These were actually made alongside the standard Illinois license plates. There are some that hit Ebay or can be found at memorabilia shows, but it may be unlikely to find a specific number again. When I owned '95 # 137, I actually found a '98 plate with that number and had the year redone to '95 for a "replica". They used that basic style for several years, only the year was different. Check out our coverage of this year's 500 Festival Parade. We have in our database now the info about what drivers were in what festival cars, and where they started in the parade. It's our understanding that 5 Corvettes will be retained by the Speedway and have new graphics applied to support the Brickyard 400 later this year, while all others go thru distribution channels.

Yeah, I guess possession is 9/10 of the law... I'm happy that we have someone like the NCM who is holding on to these and trying to make sure they get to the right owners. For 2007 and 2008, these books were made and were SUPPOSED to go along with the cars to the first owner of record when it was titled. Chevrolet "donated" the remaining books that were not distributed yet to the NCM to be used as fund raisers for the museum. I bought my 2007 a week after the race from Bill Estes Chevrolet in Indy, and it did not have the License plate, Bowtie keychain, or photo book with it, but it took me a year to find everything and my documentation search was completed around June of 2008.
It was a great idea to do these, but it sounds like Chevy had no way to actually make good on their delivery plans. I'm not sure if they are doing this again with the 2009 track / festival cars or not.
At least I think the NCM is working this so you can take the $100 tax write off, right? My guess is that they will hold on to these indefinitely as an asset and still attempt to get them to their rightful owners. Did you pickup a repro window sticker and the real build sheet from the NCM also?

Cool, thanks for the update. If you should see them at local events, like if the Festival committee members are going to take them down to Monument Circle again, we would appreciate any photos you could pass on if you are there!

No, we don't. Guess we will have to wait to see if they surface again.
