GM to sell off part of Heritage Collection

Good afternoon, Camaro Comrades, Firebird Friends,
and Corvette Cousins............

As you may know, the GM Heritage Collection numbers
in the many hundreds of cars and trucks - from 'first
builts' and 'last builts' to one-off show cars to
SEMA show cars.

The Decision has been made to sell off select
vehicles. (Indeed, a sad day for some of us......)

There's a little of everything -- from the Legendary
Buick Blackhawk -- to (are you sitting down?) a
COUPLE of 1989 Corvette ZR1s -- the Jon Moss built
Track-dominating Black 572 ZL1 -- A C5 Alpha and a C5
Beta -- The Tiger Shark -- the LT5 Camaro -- a 1904
Olds Touring -- several GTOS -- both old and new -- a
couple of 1970 muscle cars -- a mid nineties "510"
Impala SS -- and many, many pace cars and trucks.

This may be the time to break open the piggy
bank.................

PLEASE NOTE:

Barrett-Jackson will, in the coming week or two, put
out pictures of each of these cars on their website.

This is the Scottsdale, AZ auction -- January 13-19,

Does anyone know if the '07 and '08 Corvette pacers are actual Pace cars, or track cars, or replicas? Barrett Jackson does not have any information on them yet...

not sure they are getting sold. as you said they are not listed online. this list was an early one that is not necessarily accurate. wish they would get more info online.

No way to know at this point.

Also, I suspect that these two will be sold at Barrett-Jackson's Palm Beach auction in April. They're both highlighted in yellow on the original Excel spreadsheets that circulated on a number of forums back on December 18th. None of the vehicles highlighted are on the docket for the Scottsdale event. I hope to connect with a former co-worker of mine who works at the Heritage Center when he returns from the holiday break. If I can pry any detail out of him I'll pass it on here on the forum.

The '07 and '08 showed up on the Barrett-Jackson docket Monday (Lots 1218.1 and 1219--Saturday). Confirmed yesterday that they're both strobed cars used on their respective race days as parade lap cars. I'll be in Scottsdale next week. If anyone is interested in bidding on these or any other cars absentee, internet or phone, PM me with if you'd like a first hand account of what they look like. Also, if any other registry members will be in town at any of the auctions next week it would be great to meet up for a casual cold one or the like.

As of yesterday GM had 245 vehicles listed for the auction. I'm sure a lot of you have noticed that most are the SEMA one-offs and old GM Performance Division tuning and marketing exercises. Some of the ZR1's being offered are surprising as are the C5 Alpha and Beta engineering prototypes (those rarely get out the back door). The Alpha and Beta have both been on display at the NCM in the past, as have many of the ZR1's--some have been on long term loan there. As my friend at the Heritage Center put it, they had to put some skin in the game along with the customs they're parting with that have little real historic significance to the corporation.

I am surprised how cheap some of the cars are selling, however some of the Corvettes are bringing big bucks.

Thought I'd document some detail related to the GM Indy Pace Car offerings at last week's Barrett-Jackson auction. Bob, you might be pleased to know that the '07 was the only pace car in the showcase pavillion. The others sat out under a tent all week, including the '08 which had its top down from Tuesday through Sunday afternoon when I left the grounds (the interior was more than a little dusty before, during and after it crossed the block). The '04, '07 and '08 were all stobe equipped, and according to a friend of mine who manages the GM Heritage Center, are the #2 (back-up) cars used at IMS on race day. Sale prices include buyers premium.

'04 #09387: Sold for $110,000 on a Scrap title.




'07 #11585: Sold for $50,600 on clear (normal classification) title. Note that the first picture below from the Barrett web site shows the car without the Chevrolet windshield banner, door decals or fender badges that were present on the car brought to Scottsdale. VIN not part of 500 dealer replicas, however listed in the Registry library as one of two actual pace cars.



'08 #07861: Sold for $63,800 on clear title. Note the console lid is not signed or numbered by Emerson Fittipaldi like the 500 replicas procuced, and the VIN is a very early model year 2008 build--much earlier than the 500 produced for sale to the general public.





Other (non-Corvette) Indy 500 pacers sold:

1990 Chevrolet Beretta: Sold for $22,000 on a Scrap title.



1993 Cadillac Allante': Sold for $62,700 on a Scrap title.



2001 Oldsmobile Bravada: Sold for $15,400 on Scrap title. First SUV and last Oldsmobile to pace Indy.




Two actual Brickyard 400 pace cars were also sold:

1996 Camaro: Sold for $35,200 on Salvage title.
2000 Monte Carlo: Sold for $44,000 on Scrap title.
